This project titled Folded Barn Is the final project of a 300-level architecture studio. The project statement was to design a cooking/mixed-use space for learning within a non-profit farming co-op located in Upstate New York called Soulfire Farm. The space had to be within 1500 square feet and had to be constructed on a budget. I have taken the classic American Barn that is an iconic symbol for the farming industry. I then broke the shape of the barn in half and folded the two pieces together again in a new way. Where the pieces ruptured together, a glass tower shot up. While the new design incorporates a contemporary look, it still provides the functionality of a farm building. The structure is still a very efficient use of space, but now it is also efficient in its use of energy as the design takes advantage of passive solar.
